Meet Jo Carroll-Whitt from Habersham! Jo is the owner of Crossroads Cafe in Demorest and Golden Sun in Clarkesville. Crossroads Cafe is open 7 days a week serving breakfast everyday and lunch everyday except Saturdays. Patrons are sure to enjoy some of the best biscuits and down home country food this area has to offer! The Golden Sun has everything from nail and hair services to tanning beds to the cutest outfit ensembles complete with accessories! Jo moved to Habersham County from Norfolk, Virginia in the early 1990s to raise her 3 kids: Nikki, Jennifer, and Taylor. She is very active in the community and was recently a participant in the Dancing With the Stars competition for the Circle of Hope. She is also involved in the CBCA and the Lee Arrendale Transition Center. Jo has owned Crossroads Cafe for approximately 17 years and The Golden Sun for approximately 6 years. Jo and her husband currently reside in Clarkesville.
Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?
A: “Most would think cooking. I do love to cook however the ability to carry out Crossroads as it was designed to do so, so many years ago. I was looking for a business to purchase and since I’ve always worked in customer service Crossroads was the perfect place.”
Q: Who is the most interesting person you have met here in Habersham County?
A: “Dr. Judy Taylor. Amazing lady that just keeps going.”
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Habersham County and what do you love there?
A: “Grant Street Music Room; spinach artichoke dip.”
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
A: “Mexico – It feels like my home away from home.”
Q: What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: “Gosh, maybe Spiderman with my son.”
Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?
A: “Stay calm!”
Q: What is your favorite thing about Habersham County?
A: “We enjoy all 4 seasons, 1.5 hours to either GSP or ATL airport, you can count on someone being there for you.”
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
A: “10 years-probably still at Crossroads, LOL.”
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: “I am not originally from Habersham and I didn’t go to school here.”

A: “Peaceful, Community, Family.”
