Meet Holly Woods…

Holly is a life long resident of Habersham County. She has always been in the customer service industry. She works for Southern Bank and Trust. She is married and has two children. We want to thank Holly for spending time with us recently and telling us more about her life and love of Habersham County.

Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?
A: “During my childhood and teen years I was a very shy person. My first job was at a clothing store and it was expected of employees to greet each customer with a Hello or Good Morning. The way people reacted to a simple Hello gave my heart joy and thus began my love of Customer Service. My husband makes fun of me because when I go to a grocery store and see someone I know clear across the store on a different aisle, I have to go to them and say Hello.”

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Habersham County?
A: “I have worked with the public since my very first job. Twenty one years of my life have been in banking. I have met people from all walks of life. I am a life-story collector. I love hearing about where people came from, adversity they have overcome, or the way things used to be. For instance the late Miss Anna Tutt of Cornelia walked around the streets of Cornelia well into her 90’s. She would always tell you, “Have a beautiful day.” There is a park bench on a corner in Cornelia in her memory. Or the late Sidney Roland (Big Sid) who opened his blueberry farm to anyone who wanted blueberries. He even invited any person at all to his home to be baptized in the river.”

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Habersham County, and what do you love there?
A: “The Attic in Clarkesville. The Spinach & Artichoke dip for an appetizer, Grilled Hearts of Romaine Salad with extra dressing, and the Simple Pasta with Grilled Chicken. Now if I am craving some chicken wings, Chicago’s Pizza – Lemon Pepper Hot!!”

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: “New Zealand to visit the Lord of The Rings movie set. The Hobbit houses are just my size.”

Q: What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
A: “I don’t remember a particular movie but I do remember going a lot to Gainesville’s Cinemas West for the 99¢ movies. Way back when, I do remember our local movie theatre in Cornelia, The Grand, but I don’t think I ever saw a movie there.”

Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?
A: “When addressing Professionals: Always answer the phone with a Smile. Believe it or not you can hear a Smile through the phone. Never be afraid to ask for help when you’re overwhelmed with a task.
When addressing on a Personal or Faith Based level: Be Ready in Season and out of Season. In 2 Timothy 4:2 it says
Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. If someone is hurting or needs consolation and you’re in the middle of Walmart, be ready to Pray right then and there. This will encourage as well as show that you are unashamed of what God can accomplish.”

Q: What is your favorite thing about Habersham County?
A: “I have had the same best friend since 3rd grade (Baldwin Elementary). My favorite thing about Habersham is that you can build lasting relationships here. I remember being in 5th grade at Baldwin Elementary when a tornado swept through our little school. Thank goodness the tornado hit after school hours. It was great to see the community help our little school with organizing lunches at a local church each day and building classroom partitions in the gym. It really impressed this little 5th grader. I then met another best friend in 7th grade at the Old South Hab. We all 3 cheered at Central together. These ladies are precious to me and will be for as long as I live.
Oh, don’t forget the Cornelia Park Christmas Lights!!”

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
A: “I set realistic goals for myself that take a few years to accomplish. In 5 years my family will be debt free and have enough in savings to complete my 10 year goal. My husband and I would like to build a small house with a HUGE kitchen. I love having gatherings of family and friends.”

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: “I am a Wizard of Oz fanatic. I have a signed photo of one of the Munchkins that I met in Atlanta. I have a coffee table book about The Wizard of Oz with all kinds of interesting facts. I also love Shirley Temple. Perhaps it’s because I looked like her as a child. I love classic music like the Crooners, Perry Como, and Ella Fitzgerald.
At Christmas the men in my family prepare a 3rd generation recipe of Brunswick Stew while the rest of us are target shooting.”

Q: What three words mean “Home” to you?
A: “Faith, Family, and Fun. My home starts with our Faith. Our Faith in Christ puts our feet on a path that connects Family and Fun.”
